The BTEC Higher National Diploma (HND) is a specialist business programme with a strong work related emphasis. The qualification provides a thorough grounding in the key concepts and practical skills required in the business sector, with national recognition by employers allowing progression direct into employment or to a degree as the HND* is equivalent to the first two years of a business degree in a UK university.

Many students "top up" their HND to a BA (Hons) degree by studying for a further year.

Course Content

Courses start with Core Units. These are the building blocks of management. Courses then become more specialised qualifications by adding the appropriate option units.

HND has 8 core units:

  • Marketing
  • Managing financial resources
  • Organisational behaviour
  • Organisations, competition & environment
  • Quantitative techniques for business
  • Legal & regulatory framework
  • Management information systems
  • Business strategy

In addition, candidates complete 8 further units as follows :

  • Marketing intelligence
  • Marketing information
  • Advertising and promotion
  • Sales planning and operations
  • Management accounting
  • Financial reporting
  • Taxation
  • Financial systems & auditing

Assessment

While the assessment process is rigorous to ensure that high quality standards are maintained, a unique feature of our programme is that assessment is continuous and assignment based, i.e., there are no examinations to pass. Candidates are required to submit assignments for each unit in order to satisfy LSEC and Edexcel requirements.

Course Duration

18 Months, Full time

Course Fees

£ 4800

Entry requirement

You must be at least 18 years of age and around ‘A’ level standard. Otherwise, there are no restrictions or formal entry requirements for the HNC/HND, although LSEC would expect candidates to be fluent in English and to have completed secondary education or have relevant experience in the respective field. For further information about entry requirements, please contact us.

More mature learners may present a more varied profile of achievement that is likely to include extensive work experience (paid and/or unpaid) and/or achievement of a range of professional qualifications in their work sector.
